Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Inspection
On August 28, 2019, there was an inspection and no areas of concern were identified.  Special recognition goes to our entire team as this is the second inspection this year and both visits resulted in no areas of concern.
Flu Season
This is a good time to remind everyone not to visit if you have coughs, colds or are unwell in any way.  Please use hand sanitizer and wash your hands frequently.  Hand washing is the best defense against the spread of germs.  Thank you for caring!

News Briefs from the June 2019 Blue Water Rest Home Board Meeting…

Zurich Water

The Municipality of Blue Water held a public meeting on May 13, 2019 to relay the results of the feasibility study into alternative water supply options for the community of Zurich.  Due to the financial constraints the existing water supply puts on the equipment and plumbing at Blue Water Rest Home, the Board and Leadership support the project.  Currently, Blue Water Rest Home estimates $50,000 per year is expensed to equipment and plumbing repairs and as equipment ages, that cost will increase.  Another community meeting will be scheduled at a future date and if this moves forward, it will take a minimum of two years.
Student Positions
We were approved for a Canada Summer Jobs student in Activation for the summer along with a Rural Work Placement student in Activation and Wellness.  Both students are mentored by our staff and receive some on the job experience.
In addition, we are grateful to have some BScN Nursing students to support the Personal Support Workers and back fill vacation time.
These extra supports are in addition to our amazing group of dedicated staff.
Upcoming Event at the West Huron Care Centre

Medical Director Changes
A retirement celebration was held on February 7, 2019 to honour Dr. O’Connor’s 48 years of service at Blue Water Rest Home.  It was a lovely ceremony and the Exeter Lakeshore Times Advance captured highlights of the event.  We wish Dr. O’Connor and his wife, Wendy all the best as they embrace retirement and pursue some travel plans.
We are so fortunate to announce that Dr. Michael Hammond accepted the role as Medical Director at Blue Water Rest Home effective January 1, 2019.  Dr. Hammond joined our medical team as Attending Physician in July 2018 and has transitioned quite nicely into the Medical Director role.  He is well respected by the staff and we have received many positive comments from residents about his bedside manner.
